How to integrate ButterCMS into your Kotlin application
Just follow the simple steps below to complete the integration and begin creating pages with Butter. Be sure to check out our full guide to creating pages using the ButterCMS Kotlin API.
1. First, install our package by adding the following dependency in build.gradle:
dependencies { implementation "com.buttercms.android:buttercmsclient-kotlin:1.0.0" }
dependencies { implementation "com.buttercms.android:buttercmsclient-kotlin:1.0.0" }
2. Initialize the SDK:
To get started with the Butter API, instantiate the ButterCMS client with your Butter API key:
// Initialize Butter client
val client = ButterCMS("your_api_key")const butter = Butter('your_api_token')
3. Fetch posts or pages:
All ButterCMS Single Pages and Page Types have a configurable Page schema. In order to fetch data from the Butter API, you'll need to make a request using a map of parameters. For the Kotlin/Android SDK, API calls are asynchronous and expect Callback as a parameter.
For pages, because the schema can change, you'll need to model the page as a data class. For blog posts, you can just query the SDK. For example, to fetch all blog posts, you can do:
val queryParameters = HashMap<String, String>()
queryParameters["page"] = "1"
queryParameters["page_size"] = "10"
client.data.getPosts(
queryParameters,
callback = object : Callback<Posts, RestCallError> {
override fun success(response: Posts) {}
override fun failure(error: RestCallError) {}
})
4. Integrate into your application.
ButterCMSDK calls to the posts or pages API return JSON responses, like the below sample, which can be easily integrated into the framework of your choice.
